Diversity Resources for Faculty & Staff

The information below should help faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky with recruiting and retaining a diverse graduate student population.

Lyman T. Johnson Awards

Directors of Graduate Studies are encouraged to nominate students who contribute to the University of Kentucky's compelling interest in diversity or first generation college students.  Fellowships are available as matching awards for those applicants holding the equivalent of a half-time teaching or research assistantship in one of UK’s graduate programs.

McNair Fellowship

The McNair Program was named in honor of Ronald E. McNair, the African-American astronaut who died in the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. First-year UK graduate students from undergraduate universities and colleges who are participants in the McNair program are eligible to be nominated for this competitive fellowship.

Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives

The Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives is deeply committed to the recruitment and retention of students of color in the University of Kentucky’s graduate and professional programs as well as the cultural education of all members of the campus community..
