Important Resources | Valuable Information | Community Welcome New Graduate Students!

All incoming master's and doctoral students are invited to participate in our New Graduate Student Orientation. You will be able to access the orientation online, as well as join other graduate students on campus for the in-person portion if you are in the area.

While the NGSO is optional, we encourage you to review the modules before classes begin!

Note: Your program or college might also have a separate orientation at a different date that they will contact you about! Check with your new program or college if you are not sure.

In-person Orientation Aug. 10, Online Modules Available Aug. 3

Attend the in-person session Aug. 10. (optional)

Save the date! We'd love to see you on campus if you are in the area. Location and time will be confirmed in the near future.

Complete online modules, on-demand. (strongly encouraged)

The online portion of the New Graduate Student Orientation will launch via Canvas on Monday, August 3rd, and all enrolled new graduate students will be added to the course.

All enrolled new graduate students will be emailed with this information on or after August 3rd. This Canvas course can be completed on-demand and can be accessed all semester, although we recommend completing the course prior to the first day of classes.

The “course” is located in Canvas, the university’s learning management system. (Note that if you are a new Teaching Assistant, you should have received a separate invitation to join the New TA Orientation Canvas course.) Please look for the invitation or or after August 3rd and follow the instructions to join the course.

What if you don't receive an invitation by Aug. 3?

We will also paste a self-enrollment link on this page, so if you DO NOT receive an invitation from Canvas by August 3rd, you can visit this page to self-enroll in the course. If you have any trouble accessing Canvas, please contact the Help Desk at 859-218-4357 or 218HELP@uky.edu.  The course will remain available to you throughout the semester.

Note: Your program or college might also have a separate orientation at a different date that they will contact you about! Check with your new program or college if you are not sure.

If you have questions about the orientation, any of the resources mentioned, or any other resources not directly covered, please email chadwick.gilpin@uky.edu

Note that if you are a new Teaching Assistant, you should have received a separate invitation to join the New TA Orientation Canvas course.
