Mandatory orientations for new Teaching Assistants are held every August and January.

Graduate School tuition funding is contingent upon your completion of all TA Orientation requirements* within the first semester of your teaching assistantship. Should you not complete all requirements by the end of your second semester, you may not continue as a TA.

Departments are responsible for registering their new TAs for these events. Please contact your DGS to ensure you have been registered.



University-wide TA Orientation including all portions of Microteach and Plenary
International TA Orientation (required for TAs new to higher education in the United States)
Language Screening (required for TAs whose first language is not English)
Preventing Discrimination Online Module

Fall 2019 University-wide TA Orientation

University-wide TA Orientation: Thursday and Friday, August 15th and 16th, 2019 (8:15 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.) in Worsham Cinema, Gatton Student Center.  All newly appointed domestic and international TAs are required to complete the two-day orientation as part of their employment contract. The orientation includes small-group sessions on modes of teaching as well as plenary sessions on institutional policies and campus resources. Click here to download a copy of the schedule.

International TA Orientation: Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 (8:00 a.m. until 5:00pm) in Ballroom C of Gatton Student Center. This orientation is for all new TAs who are classified as international and are new to the higher-education classroom in the United States. Additional optional breakout sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in rooms 201-209 of White Hall Classroom Building.

International TA Language Screenings: Monday, August 19th, 2019 (by pre-arranged appointments beginning at 8:30 a.m.). All Teaching Assistants whose native or primary language is not English are required to participate in language screenings. Times and locations of screenings are arranged with the TA's department.

University-wide New Graduate Student Orientation: On Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 The Graduate School will hold its first annual orientation for new graduate students in Worsham Cinema of Gatton Student Center, followed by a resource fair specifically for graduate students in Ballrooms A & B. This orientation is not mandatory, but all graduate students are encouraged to attend.
