Nominations that do not adhere strictly to these instructions will not be considered. PDF must include in this order: ▶ A synopsis of the thesis (500 word maximum) outlining its context within the broader field, as well as how the completed research contributes to the discipline; prepared by the nominee; ▶ A letter of support/endorsement from the major professor focused on the criteria by which the committee will evaluate the submitted theses. These consist of: clarity of style and presentation, scholarship, research methodology and contributions to the field or discipline

Master's Thesis Awards
Nominations due by Oct. 9
The Conference of Southern Graduate Schools (CSGS) sponsors the Master's Thesis Awards, which are given in three different disciplinary categories on a rotating basis.
As a CSGS member institution, the University of Kentucky may submit one nomination per category for the national competition. Therefore, the University of Kentucky Graduate School is conducting an internal competition to determine the nominees who will represent UK and is now accepting nominations. Nomination materials and eligibility guidelines are outlined below.
Each CSGS Award consists of a financial award of $1,000 and a plaque and will be presented at the CSGS Annual Meeting Awards Ceremony February 17-19, 2027 in Arlington, Virginia. Reasonable travel expenses of award recipients will be covered.
Eligibility
Students are eligible if their thesis (or project) was accepted in partial fulfillment of master’s degree requirements between Fall 2024 and Summer 2026.
The Graduate School will provide certification confirming:
- The thesis was approved as part of the student’s degree requirements.
- The student completed the degree during the eligible period.
Nomination Process
ADs, DGSs and Graduate Faculty are encouraged to submit nominations for eligible/prior master's students.

A review committee will recommend the final 3 nominees to represent UK.

The Graduate School will notify and submit selected nominees to CSGS.
