
Seed Grants Available for Graduate Students: Research and Creative Activities Promoting Excellence in Research for Kentucky (PERK)
Promoting Excellence in Research for Kentucky (PERK) Graduate Student Seed Grants Now Available
In support of the University mission to Advance Kentucky Together, starter grants for research and creative activities are now available to currently enrolled graduate students. PERK seed grants will provide one-time awards to be used toward graduate student research or creative activities focused on advancing Kentucky.
Applicants should be the principal investigator, or main person accountable for the project and may request up to $3,000 to directly support conducting the research. For example, these funds may be used toward participant payments, software purchase, archive access, travel to conduct research, lab equipment, professional editing services, and/or research assistants.
Application Process
The following materials must be submitted to gsdean@uky.edu by Friday, Nov. 7:
- a project title
- abstract (250 words or less)
- anticipated project timeline
- collaborators (e.g., other students, faculty, community partners)
- name and letter of support from faculty advisor
- rationale for how this aligns with Advancing the Commonwealth
- student CV
- proposed use of budget. Must disclose any other funding and source being used to support the project.
Expectations
- End-of-year Reception: Present this research, even if still in progress, at an end-of-year event.
- Final Report: Complete a final report at the conclusion of the research. A template will be provided.
- Conference or Journal Submission: Give a presentation at a conference or submit your research to a journal and be listed as the main presenter or first author.
