Title: "Education and Moral Perception: Transformative Experiences in the Holistic Learning Paradigm"

Bring Your Own Lunch

Abstract:

The purpose of this talk is to discuss perceptions of moral value and the extent to which transformative experiences ought to play a role in social justice education. Lincoln argues that if educators wish to cultivate students who are committed to creating a socially just world, then they are obligated to facilitate transformative experiences which challenge the student's beliefs, affects, and habits of reason in ways conducive to those ends. He then analogously argues that higher education professionals, student development officers, and policymakers can also benefit from transformative experiences while employing this strategy in their efforts to implement a holistic learning paradigm in higher education.
